Satire
Today in class I watched a video on satire. Irony and satire go hand and hand; and irony is used in satire. It uses humor to ridicule or it points out the issues in society. I can recognize satire by finding word choice, mimicry, and understatements. The video really helped me understand satire better.

Gandi’s letter
Today in class I read a letter from Mahatma Gandhi to Lord Irwin. In his letter he expresses how he feels about the conflict between his people and the British. It is a very patriotic letter that says a lot about Gandhi’s character. He is a very tranquil and just person. Even though the British decide to not play fair he still does the right thing.

A Letter from Queen Elizabeth
Today in class I read a letter form Queen Elizabeth to her troops at Tilbury. It was very reassuring to the me as a reader. In the letter she mentioned God several times; she expresses herself as a loving and faithful person. She insinuates that she is a God fearing woman and she has the heart of a king. I had to ready this passage twice for better comprehension.

Line of Reasoning
Today in class I watched a video on understanding the line of reasoning. I learned that when I am searching for the line of reasoning I should be looking for the main idea, claims , and evidence. I also learned that the line of reading does support the argument’s thesis. The tone is included in the line of reasoning; the writers tone can have an affect on the readers feelings and thoughts. Claim and evidence are essential because the readers need credible sources.

Conclusions
Today in class I watched a video about sophisticated conclusions. This video was talking strictly about the conclusions in a rhetorical essay. Although I found ways to compare it to other essays that didn’t relate to a rhetorical situation. I also had to compare and contrast a good conclusion to a bad conclusion. The two were both acceptable, but the great conclusion would tend to interest the reader more.

Rhetorical Analysis Thesis Statement
Today in class I had to create a rhetorical analysis thesis statement. It was kind of difficult for me because it was my the first time. I had always made regular thesis statements, but never one based off of a rhetorical situation. Some of the the examples and guidelines helped, but I still didn’t fully understand. I finally came up with a revised thesis statement after critiquing my original one.

Author’s Purpose and Rhetorical Situation
Today on online class I worked more on the rhetorical situation. I took a small quiz on rhetorical situation. I had to explain the author’s purpose and why the audience was so important to when writing. The audience is very important when writing because they are the ones that the writer is trying to win over.I also created a few examples on rhetorical situation; I still don’t feel like I really understand how to identify a rhetorical situation. But with a little more practice I can better my skills.

First Day of Online Class
Today was the first day of online class officially. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I woke up early, because I thought everything was going to be chaotic. It was straightforward, but kind of time consuming. The Rhetorical situation video was fairly longer than most videos, but it taught me important facts on rhetoric. It is a great tool for anyone taking the upcoming Ap exam.
